Why a restaurant in an old shophouse
We never set out to open restaurants. Our first home, the 1936 Baan Ar-Jor mansion in Mai Khao, needed people to walk in, eat, and keep it alive — and food was the way. Old Town follows the same idea in the city: we opened the doors of this 110-year-old shophouse on 28 August 2025, a one-day-old restaurant in a building more than a century old.
A year on there are still just three long tables, still by reservation. Every dish starts with ingredients from our community, and part of what we earn goes to local students' education.
What to order
- Mee Krob (หมี่กรอบ) — our legendary crispy noodle from a family recipe more than 100 years old; with prawn, chicken or vegan.
- Moo Hong (หมูฮ้อง) — premium three-layer pork, stewed for six hours.
- Tumee fish curry (แกงตูมี้) — a two-century-old Phuket-Peranakan fish curry.
- Yam Yanad (ยำยานัด) — Phuket pineapple salad, the dish behind TOH DAENG's place among 5 restaurants nationwide in the Classic category of the Thailand Best Local Food 2026 Award (Ministry of Culture).
- Goose-tongue Andaman vegetable (ผักลิ้นห่าน) — organic, from the Mai Khao community.
- Andaman prawns in homemade tamarind sauce

Our family
Old Town is the city home of TOH DAENG. Our first home, TOH DAENG at Baan Ar-Jor in Mai Khao, is listed in the MICHELIN Guide with a Bib Gourmand (2021–2026). Both kitchens cook the family's recipes; the two menus differ a little.
